Journaling About Creativity, Design, and Collaboration: 5. Concept to Concrete

The journal is back. A regular weekend thing now as I figure out patterns of what I’d like to write every day this year.

The journal is back. A regular weekend thing now as I figure out patterns of what I’d like to write every day this year.

With each journal page I consider a key concept about creativity, design, collaboration and related matters. From that concept title I let ideas flow. It's freewriting which makes it openhearted. It reminds me of how brave spelling works for my kids, ideas are allowed to get to the page without a lot of editing.

Other times I pause and get stuck. Not every page gets finished in one sitting. Some pages coming up you'll see remain stuck. That's how it goes with some ideas. They get to be on their own timeline as I keep moving.

Did I find more feeling when I journal, did I clarify a concept in a useful way? Did I do both? Some of the things I consider looking at each page.

Clear expression and communication

Build from nothing to elements without form.

To relationships, purpose, flow.

From flow refine connection

with all humans through symbols,

meaning, interface, and story.

From story build relatable questions

and outcomes to explore.

From exploration: data, insight,

perspective. Credible, relatable.

Refinable.

In parallel intertwined making

the expression of a thing

as concept and as concrete

manifestation.
