Diagramming a product community - sketch work in progress

UX Design for Engineers is the workshop I'm working on and hope to get it finished and published in the next couple months. That will also make it available to schedule as a live remote presented workshop with Q and A, which I'm looking forward to.

One of the things I'm working on is illustrations and diagrams. Here's a work in progress about internal and external product community. I do love to think things through while doodling on my whiteboard.

Key ideas in this sketch: how can we simply visualize key groups who make a product while also connecting with your audience? There's the classic three circle diagram I've seen used a lot when people talk about design sprints and human centered design. I like that diagram with business, engineering, and design yet it feels like it's missing direct obvious emphasis on external audience/users.

I've been revisiting some teachings from the late David Hussman where he uses the phrase "product community" a fair amount. Which that feels like a useful concept. A nice way to describe the relatedness, shared purpose of how there can be lots of groups and individuals who matter in important ways to a product.

Also I'm exploring how this diagram can illustrate the five audiences I feel are key to getting skilled at including others in what you make.

A good diagram can clarify so much. I know I'm not there yet. Thought it would be fun to share the work in progress and see what kinds of questions and reactions you have. Feel free to use the comments here (they remain open for 7 days), email me, or use the contact form.
